First Ever Oxbridge Academy Football Game

The Thunderwolves took to the gridiron for the first time in history on Wednesday in a historic game under the lights against the Palm Beach Lakes Rams.

The season was kicked off by with a kick from Noah Singer, but unfortunately the game started off quick for the Rams only 8 plays into the game scoring a touchdown on a long bomb into the right corner of the end zone. But Tre Gabriel instantly returned the favor with an 80+ yard kick return for a touchdown touchdown for the first offense/special teams play in Oxbridge history. Palm Beach Lakes then came back driving down the field for another score. With the score at 14-7, Tre Gabriel then went De Ja Vu on the Rams and took another kick to the house with an amazing return tying up the score at 14-14. Once the Rams got the ball back Matthew Long then hit the quarterback and took the ball right from him, running it about 30 yards to the 15 yard line. Nick Russo then finished off the spectacular fumble recovery with a great pass to a wide open Will Koch in the end zone to take their only lead of the game at 20-14. At the end of the the first quarter the Rams led the Wolves 30-20 in an extremely high scoring opening quarter. The Thunderwolves luck then ran out with to many mistakes and turnovers. The Rams kept piling on the points until the end of the half with the score being 58-20. The second half was scoreless until Nick Russo found Will Koch yet again with a spectacular catch in the left corner of the end zone with one of the Lakes players hanging onto him with 2 minutes left. The final score ended at 58-27 as the Thunderwolves could not keep up.

Overall it was a solid performance considering it was the first game ever in history. On the upside the team gained plenty of experience for its next game on Thursday, September 27 at John Carroll High School. The team also found two players great players in Tre Gabriel and Will Koch that proved they will be be a big part of this team for the rest of this season and seasons to come. Come out and see the Wolves take on John Carroll in Ft. Pierce at 4:00 on thursday.

Swimming

The Oxbridge swim team fought hard against Benjamin in only their 3rd meet of their brief existence.  The Oxbridge girls were led by Thunderwolve high point scorer Victoria Harrison who had an impressive double in the 200 & 500 free’s.  Andrea Sandoval had a big drop in the 100 fly and Madi McDole’s endurance was put to the test as she showed grit and improvement while competing in 3 events in rapid succession.  All of the girls continued to improve.  The Boys meet came down to the last relay as they lost by a mere 8 points to Benjamin. Nick Bergonzoli won the 200 & 100 Free’s and Andre Bigos won the 200 IM. Jake Gephart (50 free), Andre Bigos (100 fly), Justin Fyfe (100 Back) and Dan Ribiero (100 Breast) all picked up 2nd place finishes.  Like the girls … the boy’s team continues to improve every meet.  Swimmers can check their specific times/ results by going to My Account, My Meet Results.  The Thunderwolves return to action on Thursday September 20 at home vs. Dryfoos. -Email from Coach David Prutow
