I just decided to share this video of Brazil's initial construction efforts of the facilities and stadiums for the far upcoming Olympic Games in Rio. This seemed relevant because I have many friends who live in Brazil as well as having visited the country myself. It truly is a beautiful city and I look forward to this spectacular event.
This week's blog entry as well as those which follow will not involve Oxbridge football as the season has ended. I'll be exploring new topics and ideas regularly and every week's post will most likely retain to a different subject. Some recent news includes Barack Obama's recent reelection for a second term over his running-mate, Mitt Romney. Oxbridge had Fall Fest (Field Day) last Friday in which a blue, red, green, and white team(s) competed against each other in an array of different sports, which resulted in the green "gators" winning. I'd also like to mention that a new quarter has begun here at Oxbridge which ends our previous marking period. An Oxbridge Fall athletic banquet will be held next week in honor of all Fall sports including football and swimming. On Tuesday, October 23d Oxbridge Academy its 6th and last game of its first ever football season. The game was held away at St. Thomas Aquinas in Ft Lauderdale against they're freshman team. St. Thomas is well known for having of Florida's best football programs, claiming many state and national titles through they're years. As well as experience, St. Thomas had more than twice as many players on their team than Oxbridge. However, Oxbridge played a great game in the second half. The first half failed to impress with no points scored and an opposing lead of over 21 points. Outside coverage on defense as well as offensive speed and caution seemed lacking. The team was however able to score 18 points in the 2nd quarter alone, learning to prior mistakes within the first half. Will Koch led with the most catches and Tre Gabriel with the most rushing yards. Defensively, great plays were made by linebacker, Justin Fyfe and defensive end, LJ Stoll, who sustained an injury during the game. I personally think Oxbridge grew immensely from its first game to its last. I also truly have great expectations of the growth of Oxbridge's football program throughout the years to come, which will by proved through success. Head coach Doug Socha seemed very proud of the team after the game and spoke about how he hopes the team will grow as a whole and come beck better than ever next year for a Varsity schedule. Off-season training will begin in spring for the team. Go Thunder Wolves ! On Tuesday, October 16th Oxbridge Academy's Thunder Wolves went head on against Cardinal Gibbon's Chiefs' freshman team at an away game in Ft Lauderdale. The Thunder Wolves started strong with 19 points in the forst quarter alone. The Thunder Wolves put up their best performance yet with an overall score of 39 to 7 against Cardinal Gibbons. Oxbridge's defensive squad played consistently and efficiently only allowing one opposing touchdown during a swap which lessened starting players however in retrospect the secondary players played great. LJ Stoll and s well as Justin Fyfe were some of Oxbridge's heavy hitters throughout the game. Middle linebacker Collin Hayek led the defense diligently and executed plays whenever needed to his fullest ability. The offense did great as well with consistent blockage throughout the game on behalf of the offensive line. Running back Tre Gabriel did his thing as usual with scoring of the night's touchdowns. Tyler Levin made ver 115 rushing yards, surpassing Tre Gabriel's record last week against Glades Day. Quarterback Nick Russo made his first actual touchdown by running the ball through the opposing defense into the in-zone. In my opinion, Oxbridge executed well and once again, grew as a team as the 2 game win streak continues. Next week's game against St. Thomas Aquinas will be they're last scheduled game thus far. It will also be one of they're most challenging yet. Keep up the good work Thunder Wolves! Earlier this week on Wednesday (10/10/12) Oxbridge Academy's football program earned its first win against Glades Day school at a home game held at John I. Leonard High School. The Thunder Wolves beat the Gators' JV team 28-6, resulting in arguably Oxbridge's best performance yet. Tre Gabriel made the put the majority of points on the board with over 100 rushing yards single-handedly. An extremely crucial and probable reason for such success was the team's defensive persistence and overall endurance however, offensively the Thunder Wolves put up a great fight as well. In my opinion this is going to be a significant turning-point for Oxbridge's success and drive for victory. Next Week's game wil be away and against Cardinal Gibbins High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As of now, the expectation bar has been raised and our overall confidence and hopes for Oxbridge football have been significantly increased. Despite a current JV recored of 1-3 I hope and expect to see Oxbridge improve drastically within the last few games and therefore, someday become a well-respected and reputable football program locally, and potentially nationally. On Friday, October 5th Oxbridge Academy had its first Varsity football game ever against Jupiter Christian at William T. Dwyer Community High School. Much anticipation led up to the big game including a pep rally held at Oxbridge as well as a tailgate party at Dwyer High School, where the game was held. The Thunder Wolves were met by much enthusiasm and support at Dwyer's stadium with nearly all the away bleachers being full. Head coach Doug Socha did a great job preparing the team all week during practice. However, despite preparation and hard work, the Thunder Wolves lost to the Eagles 13-46. Personally, I don't view this event as a loss but as a lesson and vast improvement to the team's experience and perspective. After all, the Thunder Wolves went up against a Varsity opponent being a JV team. Not too many teams, especially brand new teams, can perform at the level of diligence at which Oxbridge did on that night. Despite a current record of 0-3, I hope to see Oxbridge perform at they're best next week against Glades Day School This Thursday when they take on their JV team. For full coverage of the game, here's a URL to the full game from ESPN 760: http://www.espn760.com/livestream (I nor Oxy Bloggers own any of the content featured on www.espn760.com) On September 19th Oxbridge Academy had its first game away against the Palm Beach Lakes High Rams at 6 PM. THe game started off well with oxbridge leading at the scoreboard however lost the lead throughout the rest of the game. The final score resulted to be 27 to 58. This however, in my opinion isn't a complete loss. Despite this being the Oxbridge football program's first ever football game, the thunder wolves played very well considering the opposing team's time playing together. Many lessons were taught as well which should potentially prove to be quite a valuable asset during this week's game against John Carol.
This Blog will be about the Oxbridge Academy of the Palm Beaches's football team. Oxbridge started its founding year in 2011 with many sports including basketball, volleyball, golf, tennis, lacrosse, soccer, and more. However, there wasn't a football team which is a highly favored sport by many Oxbridge students. Luckily with petitions written and large support by the student population, the school administration and athletic directors decided to include football as part of Oxbridge's athletic program. This is going to be the first ever Oxbridge football season! The team is composed of 30 + players and will be playing a JV schedule. I have high hopes to the results of this athletic program and am eager to post news about the Oxbridge "Thunder Wolves" and they're performance on the football field. The first game will be on Wednesday, September 2012 and will be away at Palm Beach Lakes Community High School against the "Rams" |
